Rising Infertility Rates: Egg Freezing and Infertility Solutions.

by OK2BU 2023. 10. 22.

Korea is a country where infertility treatments are actively pursued. There have been cases of successful pregnancies and births through infertility treatments even for individuals over 50 years old. However, there is a growing trend of delaying marriage, resulting in a higher age bracket attempting infertility treatments. While reasons for postponing marriage may include career advancement and property acquisition, this can adversely affect the quality of eggs and sperm, making conception more challenging.

Rising Infertility Rates: Egg Freezing and Infertility Solutions.
The good news is that with joint efforts, couples can overcome infertility.

Therefore, it is advisable to consider methods such as egg freezing to preserve fertility before reproductive capacity declines. While women are born with eggs that can potentially be used throughout their lifetime, the quantity of eggs decreases over time. Particularly, after the age of 35, there is a sharp decline in the quality of eggs. Hence, considering egg freezing between the ages of 34 and 37 can be effective.

Furthermore, starting infertility treatment early is advantageous. According to research by the Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority (HFEA) in the UK, the success rate of in vitro fertilization (IVF) for women aged 43-50 is very low at 6%. In contrast, for those aged 18-34, the success rate is higher at 41%. In Korea, it takes an average of 7 years from natural conception to successful infertility treatment, which is notably longer when compared to countries like Japan or Singapore. Therefore, women over 35 should consider visiting a specialized infertility clinic after one year of marriage.

Infertility can be a concern for both partners. Hence, when scheduling the initial appointment at an infertility clinic, it is advisable for both spouses to attend together. Men should also participate in the infertility treatment process to understand and support their partners. Especially, as infertility treatment may lead to emotional changes in women, husband's support and empathy are crucial.

Infertility treatment is determined based on the Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) levels. However, having a high AMH level does not guarantee easy pregnancy. If the quality of sperm is not optimal, procedures like artificial insemination or IVF may be more favorable. Therefore, the quality of eggs is also a significant factor.

Finally, through egg freezing, selectively harvested mature eggs can be preserved. This process does not induce male infertility through overstimulation, making it a safe method for infertility treatment.

The good news is that with joint efforts, couples can overcome infertility. Support and consideration for each other are essential in this journey through infertility treatment. So, stop worrying about infertility and dream of a healthy family through appropriate measures!
