As the waist circumference of women increases, the risk of infertility appears to rise. Recent research indicates a strong correlation between abdominal obesity and infertility, particularly among women undergoing infertility studies. This study, conducted on 3,239 fertile women aged 18 to 45, utilized data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) in the United States. The analysis comprehensively examined factors such as childbirth history, physical activity, and waist circumference.

In conclusion, women can contribute to a healthy life by maintaining a steady exercise routine, adopting a proper diet to control waist circumference.

According to the findings, for every 1 cm increase in waist circumference, the risk of infertility increased by 3%. Notably, infertility rates were lowest when the waist circumference was less than 60 cm, and the highest rates were observed when the circumference exceeded 160 cm. When participants were divided into five groups based on waist circumference, the group with the longest waist circumference had a 2.64 times higher risk of infertility compared to the shortest group.

However, women who actively engaged in moderate-intensity exercise showed a tendency for reduced infertility risks, particularly evident among those with a waist circumference exceeding 113.5 cm. Conversely, women who did not engage in exercise experienced a significant increase in infertility risk when their waist circumference exceeded 103 cm.

This study highlights that waist circumference is a significant indicator for predicting female infertility, independent of BMI. Consequently, women are encouraged to reduce waist circumference and increase the likelihood of pregnancy through moderate-intensity exercise.

On another note, the average waist circumference of Korean women is 78.6 cm, slightly higher than the 60 cm group with the lowest infertility risk (Korean Society for the Study of Obesity). Recent research suggests that the average waist circumference of women in their 20s is increasing, indicating potential risks not only for infertility but also for severe conditions such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and diabetes.

In conclusion, women can contribute to a healthy life by maintaining a steady exercise routine, adopting a proper diet to control waist circumference. This not only aids in preventing infertility but also contributes to the prevention of various diseases, including serious conditions like heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.
