In modern society, people who use e-cigarettes can easily be spotted in public places or indoors. E-cigarettes have gained popularity due to the perception that they produce less odor and contain relatively fewer harmful substances compared to conventional cigarettes. However, e-cigarettes actually pose risks of passive smoking.

Harmfulness of E-cigarettes

There is a misconception that e-cigarettes are less harmful than regular cigarettes, but in reality, that's not the case. The aerosol from e-cigarettes contains various carcinogens and toxic substances. Moreover, being composed of ultrafine particles, they may be even more harmful than conventional cigarettes. Exposure to them can lead to respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.

Issues with Fine Dust and Ultrafine Particles

E-cigarettes, especially liquid-type ones, produce a significant amount of fine dust. Additionally, people around the smoker can be exposed to toxic substances. Toxic substances accumulate on the smoker's clothes, skin, hair, and surrounding objects, posing risks of passive smoking to those nearby.

Risks of Third-Hand Smoking

Harmful substances from e-cigarettes accumulate in the vicinity of the smoker. Consequently, people nearby can be indirectly exposed to these harmful substances. Particularly, children and sensitive individuals should be more cautious due to their sensitivity to these harmful substances.

E-cigarettes entail risks of passive smoking. Especially considering the potential impact on the health of those nearby, users of e-cigarettes should be mindful of their surroundings. Moreover, policies restricting the use of e-cigarettes in public places or indoors are necessary, along with raising awareness about the harmfulness of e-cigarettes. Collective efforts are needed to create a healthier environment.
