Exposure to Liver Cancer and Lung Cancer Without Drinking or Smoking: Understanding Major Causes and Prevention Methods.

by OK2BU 2024. 4. 30.

Many people think that liver cancer is caused by alcohol and lung cancer by smoking, but this is only partially true. Nowadays, there is an increasing number of cases where women who do not drink alcohol develop liver cancer, and women who do not smoke develop lung cancer. So, what are the major factors causing liver and lung cancer? Why is there an increase in female patients? Even women with little or no association with alcohol and tobacco find it hard to let their guard down.

Various Risk Factors for Lung Cancer

Smoking is the biggest factor causing lung cancer, but secondhand smoke, radon, air pollution, fine dust, cooking fumes, etc., also play a role. Many female lung cancer patients do not smoke, indicating that these factors also affect them. Ventilation is crucial. It's important to ventilate frequently, especially turning on the exhaust fan while cooking to maintain clean air. Even if you're not a smoker, if you live in a place with poor indoor air quality, consider regular chest CT scans.

Liver Cancer Risk: Focus on Hepatitis B and C Rather Than Alcohol

The main risk factors for liver cancer are not alcohol but hepatitis B and C viruses. According to statistics, about 72% of liver cancer patients were affected by hepatitis B, 12% by hepatitis C, and alcohol only accounted for about 9%. Nowadays, hepatitis B vaccination is mandatory, but many middle-aged and older women are not vaccinated due to it not being compulsory in the past. A vaccine for hepatitis C is still under development, so it's important to consult with a doctor and undergo liver cancer screening if you have these viruses.

Liver and Lung Cancer with No Early Symptoms

Liver and lung cancers often have few symptoms in the early stages, making them difficult to detect. Symptoms such as upper abdominal pain, abdominal bloating, weight loss, severe fatigue, indigestion, etc., only appear after the disease has progressed significantly. Lung cancer also has no symptoms in the early stages, and as it progresses, it may only present with cold symptoms such as coughing and sputum. Therefore, it's important for women to be vigilant about liver and lung cancer for their health.

Women should be aware of and maintain healthy lifestyles regarding lung and liver cancer. Regular health check-ups and medical advice are also necessary.
