Many people have the habit of plucking nose hair with their hands. However, this behavior should be approached with caution as it can cause injuries inside the nose. If these injuries become infected, they can lead to serious issues such as sinusitis or sepsis.

Furthermore, the phenomenon of nose hair growing longer, especially as one ages, is related to hormonal changes.

Nose hair serves to protect our nasal passages, regulate temperature and humidity, and filter out foreign substances. Due to the large pores and deep location in the skin, pulling too hard or using improper methods to pluck them can result in injuries inside the nose. Moreover, using dirty hands or tweezers can pose a risk of bacterial infection.

If nose hair has grown too long, it is recommended to use specialized scissors rather than pulling them out with your hands. Simply trim the protruding ends of the nose hair. When using a trimmer available in the market, be careful not to insert it too deeply into the nostrils. If the trimmer goes too deep, it can excessively remove nose hair, potentially impairing its function and causing damage to the nasal mucosa. If using scissors to trim nose hair, wet the area with water and lift the tip of your nose for easier cutting. Some people also use nose hair waxing products, but if possible, it's best to avoid pulling out nose hair.

Trimming nose hair is only necessary when it grows noticeably long. Frequent plucking of nose hair as a habit can increase the risk of bacterial infection. Injuries to the pores can also expose them to infection.

Furthermore, the phenomenon of nose hair growing longer, especially as one ages, is related to hormonal changes. The male hormone testosterone combines with 5-alpha reductase to convert into DHT. As one ages, the production of DHT increases, and when this substance reaches the nose hair, it generates Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1), causing the hair to grow longer. This is the reason why nose hair thickens and lengthens, in contrast to the thinning of head hair.
