Smoking is a habit that poses serious health risks. However, quitting smoking is highly effective in extending life expectancy at any age. Moreover, the rewards of quitting smoking can manifest quite rapidly, even within a few years.

According to research findings, smokers of all ages approach the survival rates of non-smokers after 10 years of smoking cessation. Surprisingly, smokers who quit smoking reach approximately 50% of the survival rate of non-smokers within 3 years.

Is It Too Late? Let's Explore the Effects of Smoking Cessation.
Many individuals may believe that quitting smoking after middle age is already too late, but the effects of smoking cessation actually manifest quite quickly.

Especially, individuals who quit smoking before the age of 40 can expect a lifespan similar to those who have never smoked at all. On the other hand, smokers between the ages of 40 and 79 have about three times higher risk of death compared to non-smokers, resulting in a potential loss of lifespan of about 12 to 13 years, as per research findings. Smoking cessation was also associated with an increase in survival duration across all age groups, with life expectancy potentially extending by up to 6 years within 3 years of quitting smoking.

Approximately 60 million smokers from only four countries participated in this study, with over 1 billion smokers estimated worldwide. While smoking rates have generally decreased over the past few decades due to concerted efforts, smoking remains a significant cause of death.

By quitting smoking, the risks of vascular diseases and cancer decrease, allowing for a healthier lifestyle. Governments and social institutions are also striving to reduce smoking rates, and it's imperative for us as individuals to consider smoking cessation for our own health.
