The longstanding issue of 'inability to record calls' on Apple iPhones, considered a critical weakness in the domestic smartphone market, has been resolved with SK Telecom's new app 'A.Dot'. As a result, Samsung Electronics has lost one of the key advantages of the Galaxy.

On the 24th, SK Telecom released the iPhone-exclusive app 'A.Dot' on the App Store. The most prominent feature of this app is, without a doubt, call recording. Since iPhones did not come equipped with call recording functionality, this was a glaring mismatch and had been pointed out. Apple had refrained from introducing this feature citing reasons like personal information protection. Previously, users had to resort to cumbersome methods such as using paid call recording apps or attaching recording devices to the back of their phones.

However, 'A.Dot' has addressed this issue in one fell swoop. With this app, users can automatically record all calls, regardless of incoming or outgoing, just like on Android phones, or manually activate the recording function when needed. Once the call ends, the recording file is generated automatically and stored only in the user's device as app data. The recorded conversation is also provided in the form of a chat log. Furthermore, the app offers a service where AI analyzes the call content and provides a summary with a title. For instance, if you receive a bank call regarding housing loans, a file titled 'Landlord's Date of Birth Verification and Tenant Document Guidance' will be created.

Around lunchtime on that day, online platforms were inundated with related reviews and reactions. Comments like "After trying it, it's almost indistinguishable from Galaxy" and "With the introduction of Type-C cables, Apple Pay in Korea, and now call recording, the inconvenience I felt when using Galaxy has completely disappeared" were posted. There were also several posts saying, "I used Galaxy for work, but now I'm switching."

Users of other telecom companies also expressed anticipation for the release of an app with similar functionality. Currently, only SKT users using the 'A.Dot' app can utilize the call recording function. Users of other telecom companies expressed reactions like "Even if they release a recording app without the AI feature, it would be great" and "Do I have to switch telecom companies just for this?"

An SK Telecom representative stated, "While phone services up until now were limited to simply conveying voice, 'A.Dot' calls provide a new phone service experience by analyzing call content for summary and type analysis," and added, "We expect to receive a positive response from iPhone users who have shown a high demand for call recording and summarization."

Through this new feature, SK Telecom is expected to gain significant popularity among iPhone users, and this is likely to be an opportunity for Samsung Electronics to strengthen its competitiveness. It is anticipated that other telecom companies will also seek to respond to this development in the future.
