According to recent research, it has been revealed that men who frequently use mobile phones may have a lower sperm count compared to those who do not. A genetic research team from the University of Geneva in Switzerland conducted this study on 2,886 Swiss men aged 18 to 22 recruited from six military recruitment centers from 2005 to 2018. Participants underwent detailed surveys about their daily habits, health, in addition to mobile phone usage, and also provided sperm samples as part of the physical examination.
The study found a correlation between increased mobile phone usage and a decrease in sperm count. Men who used mobile phones frequently had an average sperm count of 120 million, whereas men who used them less had an average of 154 million. Furthermore, men who used their mobile phones more than 20 times a day had sperm concentration 21% lower than those who did not. Men who used mobile phones extensively were at risk of having sperm concentrations drop below 15 million per milliliter. The World Health Organization (WHO) considers concentrations below 15 million per milliliter to be a risk factor for infertility.
Dr. Rita Lachenal, the lead author of the study, emphasized that "men who frequently use mobile phones are at a higher risk of having a low sperm concentration" and highlighted the need for further research on the impact of mobile phone use on pregnancy. These research findings present a new perspective on infertility issues, underscoring the importance of prudent management of mobile phone usage along with healthy communication between partners.
