Have you ever wondered why some people seem to gain weight easily while others don't, even if they consume the same amount of food? This is because our bodies utilize carbohydrates differently based on our genetic predispositions. Some individuals tend to efficiently use carbohydrates as energy compared to others. Conversely, in cases where energy utilization is less efficient, excess carbohydrates may accumulate as body fat, leading to obesity and health issues. Understanding your body type and adapting accordingly is crucial, and one method for this is the Cracker Test.

However, even for the "Full Carb Type," excessive carbohydrate intake should be avoided.

The 30-Second Cracker Test for Body Composition

This test, known as the "Cracker Test," was developed by Dr. Sharon Moalem, a geneticist in the United States. Here's how the test is conducted

Salivate: Gather saliva in your mouth.

Chew a sugar-free cracker: Chew on a sugar-free cracker.

Record the time when sweetness is detected: Note the time when sweetness is detected. If sweetness isn't perceived, stop the test after 30 seconds.

Repeat the test twice and calculate the average time.

Interpreting the Test Results

If sweetness is detected in 14 seconds or less

Classified as "Full Carb Type."

Efficiently utilizes carbohydrates as an energy source.

May find it relatively challenging to gain weight despite consuming snacks.

If sweetness is detected between 15 to 20 seconds

Classified as "Moderate Carb Type."

Tends to obtain energy evenly from carbohydrates, fats, and proteins.

Maintaining a balanced amount of snacks is advisable.

If sweetness takes 30 seconds or more to be detected

Classified as "Restricted Carb Type."

Uses fat as an energy source more than other types.

Excessive carbohydrate intake may lead to the accumulation of body fat.

However, even for the "Full Carb Type," excessive carbohydrate intake should be avoided. Despite a high energy utilization ratio, an excess of carbohydrates can leave surplus carbs in the body, leading to fat accumulation. To avoid gaining weight, it's crucial to regulate your diet appropriately and maintain eating habits that align with your body type.
