Researchers at the University of Western Australia conducted a study with 67 individuals aged 55 to 80, all of whom spent 7 to 8 hours sitting each day. They experimented with three different conditions: the first group sat without exercising, the second group walked for 30 minutes in the morning and then sat, and the third group walked for 30 minutes in the morning and stood up to walk for 3 minutes every 30 minutes while sitting. The results showed that the group that walked for 30 minutes in the morning experienced an average blood pressure reduction of 3.4 mmHg. Furthermore, the group that stood up and walked every 30 minutes had a total blood pressure reduction of 5.1 mmHg, with a significant 6.6 mmHg reduction observed in women. Walking exercise stabilizes blood pressure through the decrease of catecholamine hormones that elevate blood pressure and the activation of endothelial cell function within blood vessels.

 

Caution: Morning Exercise for High-Risk Heart Patients

However, individuals with a history of heart disease or those at high risk should avoid early morning exercise. Blood pressure is typically elevated in the morning, and the lower temperatures may lead to a sudden rise in blood pressure during exercise.
