Now, you can order items at Starbucks that cost less than the value of your gift card, and the remaining balance will be saved for future use. This convenient service is set to be implemented in Starbucks stores starting December and will later be available through the online application.

According to Representative Yun Chang-hyun of the People Power Party, this news was disclosed. Starbucks has recently developed a "customer convenience proposal for using less than the face value of merchandise-type gift certificates" and is in the process of developing the related system. This is in response to Representative Yun's criticism during last year's parliamentary audit, and the company presented this year's progress before the upcoming parliamentary audit.

 

Previously, when using a Starbucks gift card, customers could only exchange it for products of equal or greater value. This made it impossible to order lower-priced items, and if customers chose more expensive items, they had to pay the difference. For example, if a customer received an Iced Latte coupon but wanted to order an Iced Americano, it was not possible, causing controversy as it was seen as forcing unnecessary spending among consumers.

 

However, starting from December, it will be possible to order items that cost less than the face value of the merchandise-type gift certificate. Additionally, if the price of the ordered item is less than the gift card's face value, the remaining balance will be preserved on the Starbucks card. Even customers who do not have a Starbucks card can apply for one at the store and immediately accrue the remaining balance.

 

Starbucks stated, "We plan to complete the application of this feature to the point-of-sale systems at Starbucks stores this December." This service is also expected to be available through the online application. With these changes, ordering drinks at Starbucks will become even more convenient and provide greater satisfaction to consumers.
